- The original source material for my fanfiction is Was It Love? (우리 사랑했을까?) I chose this drama because when I first began watching it this past summer, I thought the setup was rather novel, mixing together multiple genres of Korean drama (e.g. chaebol drama, gangster drama, idol drama, school drama). However, as the series progressed, I felt that the writing deteriorated, making the drama somewhat frustrating to watch. In writing my fanfiction, I hope to address some of the places I thought the drama went wrong.
- I want to recreate the initial setup involving No Ae-jung setting out on her dream to produce her first professional film, only for four men from her past to pop up in the production process. However, I also want to add elements from yet another genre—zombie thrillers. I think this sort of external factor (i.e. zombies) will make the action more interesting, and also cause some of the characters to make different choices. Will they choose their careers? Romance? Or survival?
- The main theme of the original drama was romance and being true to one’s beloved. I will keep this main theme, though it will be more extreme now given that characters will have to stay true to each other in the face of the danger of zombies.
- I am most excited about getting the chance to play around with a drama that I found dissatisfying after having initially enjoyed it. I am most concerned about displeasing other fans who might find my version of the plot to deviate too much from the original.
